Charity Night 2017 in Buenos Aires

On October 10th, Renata Jacobs and the Swiss Ambassador to Argentina, Mr. Hanspeter Mock, welcomed around 230 guests to the 6th Charity Event in aid of the Cartoneros y sus Chicos project.

It was a very special night at the Hipódromo de Palermo, where many friends, including personalities from industry, commerce, sports and show business gathered to support this charitable work.

The entertainment program was opened by Federico Siksnys with his Bandeón, followed by an impressive Capoeira performance and a breathtaking Tango presentation by Luciana y José.

For this year’s auction, Daniel Genovesi, Milo Lockett, Luciana Levinton and Gian-Paolo Minelli donated their art; soccer stars Leo Messi and Jonás Gutierrez, soccer club CA River Plate, polo player Miguel Novillo Astrada, soccer legend Sergio Goycochea, as well as tennis cracks Diego Schwartzman and Juan Ignacio Chela generously donated signed t-shirts and racquets.

In her speech, Renata Jacobs thanked for the long-term support and announced the creation of a new Foundation:

“We founded an NGO for “Cartoneros y sus Chicos” yesterday in Buenos Aires. We hope that as a local NGO we will get a lot more support from the government, the community, industry and all Argentines”.

“When we started the project six years ago, 50 children were receiving tuition. According to our project manager, Coto Ruiz, for this school year, more than 300 children wanted to enroll – unfortunately we do not have the capacity for such a large group in the three rooms of our little school. We urgently need to build an annex to the existing school until the construction of the new school center begins.”

Bodega Amalaya offered the champagne for the reception and the red and white wine to accompany the three-course menu.

At the Callebaut stand, the Brand Ambassador, Chef Luciano García, offered, to everyone’s delight, surprising and delicious samples of his creations with the best chocolate in the world, which could be enjoyed with a cup of Café Cabrales.

For the grand finale, everyone rocked to the music of the group Los Echeverria, who spontaneously invited surprise guest Maxi Trusso to join them on stage.

Children’s Day Celebration!!

Pupils, siblings, parents and family, teachers and the team of the “Cooperativa Las Madreselvas” met at the school on Friday 18 August to celebrate Argentina Children’s Day (Día del Niño).

For this day, our children prepared performances and games with the enthusiastic support of their teachers and many helpers.

Two hundred children and around one hundred friends took part in the celebration, played bingo for homemade prizes and PET bottle bowling for sweets.

There were hotdogs, a playground for the littlest ones, a great show by the students, stencil drawing, and much more. The children also received many surprise presents, thanks to the generous support of Trenes Argentinos, Ferrero, Fundación La Nación and many voluntary helpers.

In the name of Renata Jacobs and the Cartoneros of Las Madreselvas, we would like to thank everyone who made this celebration possible for our children !

CHARITY EVENT 2017 IN ZURICH

On the evening of March 14, around 300 guests arrived at AURA Zurich for our 6th Charity Event on behalf of the project Cartoneros y sus Chicos.

Amongst many renowned participants we were honoured to host the Argentine Ambassador to Switzerland, Mr. Antonio Trombetta, film producer and six time Oscar winner, Mr. Arthur Cohn and Miss Earth Switzerland 2017, the lovely Sarah Laura Peyrel.

Presenter Kurt Aeschbacher guided us with great know-how and charm throughout the evening. A welcome speech by Renata Jacobs was followed by a varied programme of entertainment:

Francesco Bortugno with his Modern Magico Comedy Show; The Powerdance Group coreographed by Anisch Donvito; Professor Ben Moore, who took us on a fascinating trip to the stars; Marc Amacher, who rocked the venue with his unique voice and Miguel Angel Silva from Ibiza who put everyone in a holiday mood with his latino songs.

At our traditional auction there was animated bidding for the jute seats, colourfully decorated by our children in Argentina, especially created for the occasion. The bids came sick and fast for Swiss tennis star Roger Federer’s signed racket and the vouchers for stays and culinary experiences in some of the best hotels. Artworks of Monegasque artists Anthoni Alberti, alias Mr. One Teas and Jen Miller, were also up for auction. Jen’s work achieved the highest price of this auction.

At the silent auction, nine beautiful jute pillows, handpainted by our children in Argentina, were sold at very good prices.

The auction brought in around CHF 45‘000 for our Cartoneros children.  Thank you to all the generous bidders!

The guests enjoyed the food and drinks and closed the evening dancing to the music of DJane Carol Fernandez.

It was a happy and successful charity night.  The proceeds amounted to CHF 200‘000, and will be used to pay for the operational costs of our school and the teachers‘ salaries for the 2017 academic year and continue offering our children (now 160 – in 2016 we had 90 kids!) a place to learn and flourish.

A big thank you to all participants, contributors, sponsors and helpers for making this happy result possible.

GRACIAS DE TODO CORAZÓN!

See you again on Tuesday, 13th March 2018!

Save the Date! 5th Charity Event in Buenos Aires

We are already preparing our 5th Charity Event for our project “Cartoneros y sus Chicos” in Buenos Aires, which will take place on October 27th at the Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo. As we are celebrating our 5th anniversary we will present a very special program with lots of surprises.

If you are interested in participating in our project “Cartoneros y sus Chicos”, please contact us at info@cartoneros.org.  We would be very happy to inform you on the various possibilities.

Every contribution, however small or large, helps us to go on tutoring our children, pay for school material, teachers’ salaries and general expenses.

We also need financial support and sponsors from construction companies to start building our new school centre.

This centre will allow us to take care of more children and to offer them a better education and a better future.

We thank you for your support!

5th Charity Event at the AURA IN Zurich

On March 15th of this year, we held the 5th charity event of our project “Cartoneros y sus Chicos”– Mejor Educación-Mejor Vida – in the city of Zurich.

An exceptional place must offer an unforgettable ambiance! 300 people attended the event, which thus far set an absolute record.

This year, we also received extensive support from Argentines living in Switzerland, who were very active in promoting the event.

Renata Jacobs welcomed the guests and gave detailed information about the project. We also presented a movie that showed our children at the tutoring center. Eager students concentrate on their teachers’ words and are happy to contribute. Our children have great potential as they all successfully transitioned to a higher level of schooling.

Female singers from Colombia composed a song -“Sueños de Cartón“- for our “Madreselvas“ Cartoneros, which triggered the idea to produce a CD. For this purpose, some musician friends from Argentina gave us a few of their songs.

Alongside many industry and business leaders as well as great number of friends, we’d like to especially mention the following guests:

-Arthur Cohn, six-time academy award winner, who came all the way from California specifically for our charity night

-Caroline Rasser, actress and cabaret artist from Basel, director of the theaters “Fauteuil“ and “Tabourettli“,

-Former Swiss ambassador to Argentina, Johannes Matyassy, a strong supporter of our project from the beginning,

-Kurt Aeschbacher, editor and host, and committed to the welfare of children as a UNICEF national ambassador,

Our young anniversary deserved a splendid celebration with a multifaceted program: Between wonderful delicacies prepared in AURA’s kitchen and Argentinian wine, international artists delighted the lively audience:

-Frank Borton, magician (Italy)

-Elsa Schibler and Jonathan Blay, tango dancers (Spain, Argentinia)

-Ariane Indira Wildberger, singer (Switzerland)

-Anisch & The Powerdance Group, dance group (Switzerland)

-Julian Fontalvo, singer (Colombia/Spain)

An auction was set up this year as well. Displaying a great deal of conviction and charm, Mr. Peter Blum auctioned off animal figures designed by Jenny Dreifuss and decorated by the Cartoneros children. We’re so happy that all our animals (guanacos, ostriches, crocodiles and armadillos) have found new homes! A big thank you to the generous bidders!

When the official program drew to a close, it was time for disco music and every guest was given free reign to show their talent for dancing.

After a tasty midnight snack, the lights went out at two in the morning and the guests went home in an exhilarated mood, some dancing the tango, others disco-style.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable and successful evening.

We would like to take this opportunity and again express our sincere thanks to all attendees and donors, and we look forward to spending our next event in 2017 with you.

4th Charity Event in Buenos Aires

On September 17, 2015 we held our 4th Charity Gala Dinner on behalf of the children of the Cartoneros. For the occasion, a friend offered me the Tribuna Oficial del Hipodromo Argentino de Palermo. A fantastic venue for such an exclusive event.

Cocktail at the Race Track

As a surprise, a children’s orchestra opened the event by playing classical music. All these children come from the so-called “villas” (slum areas). The orquestra of Villa Palito is sponsored by a private benefactor and by the Mayor of the community of La Matanza during their annual performances.  It was quite an emotional moment.

Again this year, Federico Siksyns delighted us with beautiful Tango melodies. We thank Federico and his partner for the wonderful music. What would Argentina be without its Tango?  Thanks to the efforts of two Argentinian friends, the Fundación SES and an event manager, our so-called “Cartoneros-team”, the evening was a great success. 200 people attended the event: entrepreneurs, politicians, important contemporary artists as well as many dear and loyal friends.

Some impressions of our Gala Event

With the help of the Swiss Embassy in Argentina and from befriended Swiss companies, we gathered many interesting prizes for our tombola. Many objects, such as a motorbike, paintings and jewellery were bought at good prices at the silent auction.

Another surprise was the performance of two Colombian singers of a self-composed Cartoneros song. It is currently under production.

The event was broadcasted on television at least five times that evening. This was excellent publicity and we hope to win more friends for our cause who will donate and participate next year.Heartfelt thanks to the participants and contributors. We are looking forward to our next event in October 2016.

4TH CHARITY EVENT ON 7TH MAY 2015 IN VIOR IN ZURICH

On 7th May 2015 we organised the 4th Charity Event in Zurich. More than 200 guests visited the occasion which was held with great success in the beautiful rooms of the Restaurant/Club VIOR.

This event was attended by numerous friends and personalities from business and financial circles, as well as amongst others also the Swiss Ambassador in Argentina, Mr Hanspeter Mock; the sister of the President of the United States, Mrs Auma Obama; the well-known Swiss comedian, actor and stage director Emil Steinberger and the world famous Director and Film Producer, Dr. Arthur Cohn, whose films have already won six Oscars.

Once again the Charity Event hosted an American auction. For this we warmly thank Mrs Jenny Dreifuss, who has now been in Buenos Aires for the second time to paint and model with the Cartoneros children. Under her guidance approximately 20cm tall wooden obelisks were painted and many other beautifully coloured art works created.

In addition a film made by young students from Buenos Aires was shown, about our Cartoneros children in the school and about the work, their parents carry out.

All in all, it was a highly successful, enjoyable evening as can be seen from the accompanying photos.

Computer Course!

Mr Oscar Albert of ESMA, which we got to know as well at the last charity event, offered to teach adults and adolescents on recycling, repairing and installing of computers and on network design.
First meetings and arrangements have already taken place and they are currently drafting a plan, together with the Cooperativa “Las Madreselvas” to start with small groups of 6-8 persons, for 3 hours per week. The launching of this project should start in March 2014 at the latest.

Charitiy Event with the Swiss the Swiss Ambassador in Argentina

The charity Event held on 24 October 2013 together with the Swiss Ambassador in Buenos Aires, was a big success.
The auction was held for a signed tennis racket of Roger Federer, a signed football-shirt of Lionel Messi and other precious objects in order to continue the mission of the project “Better education – better life” in Argentina.

We aim to support, in a spirit of solidarity, children who need school help to ensure a good education.
